Casa Loca is the latest tourist sensation in Colombia. Better known as the upside-down house, the property resides in the town of Guatavita, a short distance from Bogota. The house has attracted people from all over the country for its topsy-turvy furniture which makes the visitor feel like they’re walking upside down! Read on to know more about this quirky house!

About the House

The peculiar house is a brainchild of Austrian Fritz Shall, who has been living in Colombia for 22 years. The house features all the things inside it upside down. Hence, the visitors walk on the ceilings and all the furniture and the floor are above them! The construction is also inclined at a 5-degree angle to the left and backward, generating the look of an ‘optical illusion’. The house is inspired by a similar structure in Shall’s homeland, and the construction for the same has been underway for the past two years. This is the latest addition in a string of upside-down houses all over the UK. The first such house was built in Germany in 2008, and now there’s an upside-down church in Vancouver and an upended model of White House Wisconsin for the people to enjoy!

Public Reaction

After a delay due to the pandemic, the doors for the crowd-pleasing casa opened on January 22, 2022. Barely two months into its opening, the upside-down has seen hundreds of tourists flock to its doors for much-needed entertainment. The quirky house has seemed to bring its visitors some laughter amidst the dreary lockdown boredom. With its upside-down exteriors, complete with a red topsy-turvy car parked in the driveway, it has quickly become a favorite social media capture! Despite the initial trepidation Shall faced when he set out to build the house, the response has been overwhelmingly positive!
