Madonna is one of the most famous pop singers of the last few decades. The star has made her mark worldwide and seems larger than life when she takes to the stage. On the other hand, when the tours are over and she heads home, Madonna plays the role of a mom of six as well.

Excited for Motherhood

Madonna has shared that motherhood was very much something she was looking forward to. The star once spoke to People about her path to motherhood.

She said, “Sometimes I would just close my eyes and just think, ‘Why isn’t my kitchen filled with dancing children?’ There’s so many children that need a home. I thought, ‘What am I waiting for? Just do it.’ It seems like she took her own advice to heart!

Lourdes Leon

Madonna had her oldest child, Lourdes Leon, on October 14th, 1996. At the time, she was married to her previous husband, Carlos Leon.

The star’s love for her daughter was clear and public right away. It was only two years later the artist would release the album Ray of Light featuring the song “Little Star” written for her daughter. Today, Lourdes has made a name for herself as a model, working with some world-famous brands.

Rocco Ritchie

Madonna’s relationship with Carlos Leon wasn’t meant to last and she later shared a relationship with Guy Ritchie. The two would welcome Rocco Ritchie together in August of 2000.

There has been some public tension between Madonna and her son. In fact, Rocco once told talk show host Ellen Degeneres that, “She’s a good mother…she’s very strict but in a good way.” After that interview, Rocco would later start living with Ritchie rather than the pop star.

David Banda

About five years after Rocco was born, Madonna and Ritchie decided to expand their family once again, this time opting for adoption.

The couple adopted David Banda from Malawi while Madonna was visiting the country after founding Raising Malawi. Talking to British Vogue, the star said of her son, “He’s the one I have the most in common with. I feel like he gets me; he has more of my DNA than any of my children so far.”
