The Sauce

Made with a blended onion base with a hearty helping of habanero pepper and added tomato paste, this spicy peanut sauce is a surprisingly delicious savory version of the all-time favorite peanut butter. You can adjust the level of spiciness as per your preference by ranging the added habanero portion. In fact, the spicier, the more traditionally Beninese it is! This sauce is like a Beninese form of ketchup. You can enjoy the sauce as a delicious dip on side of your fries, or as a lip-smacking topping on your roasted meat, potatoes and veggies. Here is the easy and quick recipe to prepare the spicy peanut sauce.

Ingredients (For 4 Servings)

• Vidalia onion or any large onion, ½ piece

• Habanero pepper, ½ piece (You can increase the amount as per choice)

• Beef bouillon cube, 1

• Tomato paste, 2 tbsp.

• Creamy all-natural peanut butter, ½ cup

• Oil, 2 tbsp.

• Salt, ¾ tsp. (Or as per your taste)

• Water, ¾ cup

Method

• Blend onion and habanero pepper until smooth.

• Hit some oil in a frying pan on the stove, then cook the blended onion-pepper paste with beef bouillon cube, and tomato paste. Add salt as per your taste. Cook the mixture for about 5 minutes.

• Add peanut butter and water to the pan. Mix well to combine everything.

• Cover the pan and reduced to simmer for 15 minutes. Then open the lid and cook for a minute or two. Your delicious spicy peanut sauce is ready to enjoy with any meal. Enjoy it hot or after cooling down, store it in an air-tight jar to savor later.
