Love at First Sight
Queen Elizabeth’s fondness for corgis is a fact. However, you may not know that she’s loved corgis since childhood. She fell in love with corgis in 1933 when she was introduced to the corgis of the children of the Marquess of Bath.

That same year, her father brought home Dookie, a Pembroke Welsh corgi. This picture was taken in 1936, showing a 10-year-old Princess Elizabeth and her pet dog.
Queen Victoria and Sharp
Collies became popularized in the Victorian era when Queen Victoria kept and loved a collie as a pet. Queen Victoria’s favorite collie dog was named Sharp.

Sharp was born in 1864, and the Queen acquired him in 1866, soon after the passing of her husband, Prince Albert. Sharp proved to be the perfect companion to the grieving queen and was so loved that he got to be in royal photographs.
Princess Anne
The British royal family is known for their love of dogs, and Princess Anne is no exception. The Princess is known to be hands-on when walking her dogs and has been regularly photographed on her walks.

Princess Anne, who became Princess Royal in 1974, and is considered a style icon, takes after her mother regarding her love for dogs. In this picture, she can be seen taking a stroll with her dog in Gatcombe Park.
Prince Charles and Harvey
King Charles, Princess Anne’s brother, also inherited his love for dogs from the late Queen. Over the years, King Charles has been known to be fond of the grit and intelligence of Jack Russell terriers. He’s also had labradors and hounds.

As a young man, he had a pet labrador dog named Harvey. This picture shows Prince Charles at the Quorn Hunt Cross Country Event with Harvey.
Princess Margaret and Her Spaniel
While Queen Elizabeth II doted on corgis, her sister, Princess Margaret, wasn’t quite a fan of the breed. Instead, she leaned towards the cavalier King Charles spaniel dog breed.

She’s pictured here with her fiancé, Antony Armstrong-Jones, stroking their dog, Rowley, at the Royal Lodge, Windsor. This dog breed was associated with royalty, having been named by King Charles II, but Margaret was reportedly the last royal to own the breed.
The Queen Consort With Bluebell
Camilla, the Queen Consort, loves dogs and horses. She’s a longtime royal patron of the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, from which she adopted both Jack Russell terriers, Beth and Bluebell.

This picture was taken during one of Camilla’s visits to Battersea Dog and Cats Home. With her is the adorable Bluebell. We must say, this cute pup is very worthy of the royal life – just look at her little face!
Princess Caroline’s Bulldog
Princess Caroline of Monaco is Princess of Hanover by marriage to Prince Ernst August. The princess has a French bulldog named Romeo, who once made an appearance with her at the beach.

The pooch wasn’t on a leash, so we can safely assume he’s well-trained. He looks so adorable dutifully chilling in the water with the princess!
Dookie and Jane
Besides Dookie, another early favorite of Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret was Jane, another corgi. Both princesses would feed them by hand from a dish held by a footman.

This picture was taken at the Royal Lodge, Windsor, UK, showing Prince Albert, his wife, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, and their daughters, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret. Also captured in the picture are their dogs, including Pembroke Welsh corgis, Dookie and Jane, and Tibetan lion Choo-Choo.
The Family’s Pet Rabbit
Prince Charles and Princess Diana were avid pet lovers. You probably know they had several pet dogs, but you should also know they had a pet rabbit too.

Here’s a picture of Prince Charles helping little Prince Harry hold the rabbit at their country home of Highgrove House. Harry was two years old and was closely supervised by an adult as he played with the rabbit.
Young Prince William
Considering how much his grandmother and father loved dogs, it’s no wonder Prince William grew to love them, as he was brought up with many pet dogs in the royal household.

The future king, Prince William, is seen here playing with a pet dog named Widgeon. The prince currently owns a black cocker spaniel puppy named Orla, which was a beautiful gift from the Duchess of Cambridge’s brother.
The Royal Family of Norway
The royal family of Norway donned traditional clothes as they made a public appearance to celebrate their country’s National Day. Crown Prince Haakon, and his wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, alongside their two children, Sverre Magnus and Ingrid Alexandra, were photographed with their fur babies.

The labradoodles, named Milly and Muffins, look adorable, posing for the picture with the royal family. The Norwegian royal family is devoted to their pets and often includes them in family pictures.
Walking With a Lab
The Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth II’s mother, and King George VI’s widow, was known to have loved labradors. This love for labradors is one Queen Elizabeth II and her children inherited.

The labrador is a loyal companion, babysitter, and best friend and is regarded by some as the perfect family dog. It’s no wonder the royal family loves this breed of dog!
A Royal Cat Person
Princess Michael of Kent, born Baroness Marie-Christine Anna Agnes Hedwig Ida von Reibnitz, is an author and an international lecturer on topics of history and art. She married Prince Michael of Kent – King George V’s grandson.

The royal family’s love for dogs is well known, and they’ve had a rabbit, a tortoise, and a hamster as royal pets. But, so far, no one seems to be a cat person except Princess Michael of Kent.
A Royal Photoshoot
King Charles III’s love for dogs is widely known, and he owned several breeds. One of his beloved dogs was Harvey, whom Princess Diana disliked. She reportedly claimed he was smelly, and the couple argued about it until Charles gave the dog up.

Unlike Harvey, Diana must not have thought Tigga was smelly, as the Jack Russell stayed in the family for a long time. In this photoshoot, Diana even let the dog sit on her lap. Tigga looks so adorable that it’s almost hard to focus on Diana!
Tibetan Lion Dog
Before Alexandra of Denmark was Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions and Empress of India, she was Alexandra, the Princess of Wales, and she had a cute Tibetan lion dog. This picture was taken in 1868, and she can be seen posing beside the dog.

As wife to King-Emperor Edward VI, she was Queen for nine years, and before and during her tenure, she set many fashion trends. She also popularized the Tibetan lion dog breed.
Meghan and Her Dogs
Meghan Markle has made no secret of her love for animals, especially dogs. She even took her beagle, Guy, to her wedding reception! As a working royal, she chose the animal welfare charity Mayhew as one of her patronages and has frequently advocated for adopting dogs on social media.

The same year Meghan and Harry got married, they adopted a black lab named Pula after the official currency of Botswana, where Prince Harry first took Meghan when they started dating in 2016. In August 2022, Prince Harry and Meghan adopted a seven-year-old rescue beagle named Mamma Mia, who joined the ranks of their dogs.
A Family Photo
The Queen has been inseparable from dogs since she was a kid. Growing up, she played with her family’s pups until she was ready to take care of her own. On her 18th birthday, she got her first ever corgi as a present; since then, it’s been one corgi after the next.

Her love for dogs, particularly corgis, didn’t diminish when she married Philip. Here’s a photo of Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, with their children, Charles, Anne, and baby Andrew. Also present in this family photo is a dog that fits perfectly in the picture.
Picture Perfect
Here’s another picture of the family at Windsor Castle. The whole clan is present here – Elizabeth, Philip, Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward.

Their little doggo is right there with them! The corgi looks content enough to join this family’s adventure, and can you blame him? He’s probably the most pampered pooch in the world!
Young Prince Edward
Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, is the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Like other royal family members, he has a thing for fur babies and has felt that way for years. Here’s a picture of him as a young man with his labrador dog, Frances.

The picture was taken on his 18th birthday on the grounds of Buckingham Palace. At the moment, Prince Edward and his family have two dogs and a pet tortoise.
Prince Charles and Prince Edward
Prince Charles and Prince Edward were born 16 years apart, so the brothers didn’t exactly grow up together. Originally third in line to the throne, Prince Edward is now 13th in line and was made Duke of Edinburgh for life in March 2023.

This picture was taken in 1989 just before Charles was joined by his brother, Edward, and some more adorable puppies, on the bank of the River Thames. We can’t help but think this is just the cutest picture!
Well Handled
The only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Princess Anne was the first of the Queen’s four children to get married. She had two children, Zara and Peter Phillips, and decided not to give them royal titles.

As children, the siblings were dog lovers, just like their mom and grandmother. Peter and Zara had their corgi pup under control while watching their dad compete in the Croft Original Horse Trails.
Catherine and Lupo
The Princess of Wales is easily among the most popular royal family members. She’s known for her warmth and reliability, and she’s also a dog lover, which is hardly a surprise!

In 2012, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, attended The Golden Metropolitan Polo Club Charity Cup match, in which Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Harry played. In this picture, she’s seen walking with Lupo. Lupo was the Prince and Princess’ beloved dog that Kate’s parents gave them.
Savannah Phillips
Given that her great-grandmother is the world’s most famous dog lover, it’s no surprise that little royal Savannah Phillips shares the same love for dogs. She’s also been handling dogs from a young age.

Savannah is the oldest of the royal babies, as she’s the daughter of Peter Phillips and granddaughter of Princess Anne. This picture was taken in 2019 when Savannah attended the Gatcombe Horse Trials at Gatcombe Park in March.
Bingo the Labrador
King Carl of Sweden, Queen Silva, and their dog, Bingo, attended the celebrations for Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden’s 27th birthday on July 14th, 2004, at the royal family’s summer residence in Borgholm, Sweden.

Their dog is an adorable yellow labrador retriever who seems to be good at photobombing. He crashed the photo session, but we’re sure the royals didn’t mind, as he looked incredibly adorable!
Princess Charlotte
Princess Charlotte is the second child and only daughter of William, Prince of Wales, and Catherine. Little Princess Charlotte was playful and adorable and was regarded as a tiny doppelganger of her father.

She followed in her family’s dog-loving footsteps from a young age. The adorable princess looks so happy reaching out to pet this sweet, white pup at an even!
The Danish Royals
It’s essential to have fun with your dogs, and this Danish crown royal knows that, as she can be seen here playing with Helike, her dachshund. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark pets the dog while Prince Henrik smiles off-camera in this beautiful scene. As far as family pictures go, this one is definitely perfect!

Helike was a gift from Margrethe’s husband after she lost her 14-year-old dachshund called Lady Evita. Prince Henrik passed away in 2018, and Helike was at his funeral to mourn his owner.
The Tindalls’ Dogs
Mike Tindall and his eldest daughter, Mia, were seen walking their pet dogs as they supported Zara at the Gatcombe Horse Trials. Zara previously revealed that all three dogs were named after female characters in adventure films.

The labs are Storm (in X-Men) and Pepper (in the Iron Man movies), and the Boxer is called Sway after the character in Gone in 60 Seconds.
The Queen’s Mother
Queen Elizabeth, the mother of Queen Elizabeth II, was just as devoted to dogs as her daughter was. She introduced a strict regimen for the dogs, ensuring each had its wicker basket raised above the floor in order to avoid drafts.

In this picture, the Duchess of York is seen on the grounds of 145 Piccadilly, London, which is known to be Queen Elizabeth II’s childhood home. She’s with one of the royal corgis in this picture that was taken before the Duke’s ascension to the throne.
A Shared Bond
Queen Margrethe had a lot in common with the late Queen Elizabeth II, her third cousin. Besides the great love and dedication each showed the countries they ruled, they were also both dog lovers.

Over the years, Queen Margrethe II has had several canine pets, and as members of her family, they are often featured in official portraits.
An Offense
Princess Anne can often be seen walking her English bull terriers. The Princess has been caring for bull terriers for decades, and her pets have been known to sometimes turn violent.

In 2002, Anne was the first senior royal to face consequences after her dog, Dotty, attacked two children. Luckily, the issue has since been resolved.
Vacationing With Pets
What’s more fun than vacationing with family? Taking your fur babies with you! In 1997, Prince Charles went on a vacation to Balmoral with his sons, and they brought their pet dogs with them.

In this picture, Prince Charles is dressed in a kilt and can be seen holding a walking stick. He and his sons then went on to the River Dee, Balmoral Castle Estate. And with them were Prince Charles’ Jack Russell dog, Tigga, and Prince William’s black labrador dog, Widgeon.
The Dutch Royal Family
The Dutch royal family are also royal dog lovers. King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, and their three princesses, Amalia, Alexia, and Ariane, have two beautiful black labradors called Skipper and Nala who follow them everywhere they go.

You’ll even find these dogs around on vacations and photography sessions on the beach. The pups are present in this photoshoot, and you can’t tell us they don’t look excited to be there! The little scene-stealers are absolutely enjoying the spotlight!
A Part of the Family
Here’s another picture with Lupo in it. He looks cute as Kate plays with him and Savannah Phillips, daughter of Peter Phillips. Savannah seems to be unaffected by Lupo’s deeply mesmerizing eyes. Lupo has been featured in many pictures with the royals, including one of the first official photos of Prince George.

The dog is believed to have helped George’s parents choose a name for George. The couple reportedly wrote names on various pieces of paper and scattered them on the floor. Lupo wandered through them but stopped when he reached the name George.
Princess Diana
Diana grew up surrounded by dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, and horses, and according to her mother, she loved animals when she was a child. However, some would argue that she wasn’t much of an animal lover as an adult.

That said, Princess Diana looks beautiful in her lovely pale pink outfit while leading a royal corgi into the Queen’s 88th birthday party. It wasn’t just humans who loved Diana – it seems all creatures adored her!
Zara and Mike Tindall
Zara Phillips, and her husband, Mike Tindall, are also dog lovers. The couple has kept pet dogs since they’ve been together. Besides being a royal family member, Zara Phillips is a British equestrian and an Olympian as well.

It’s nice to know that besides having her husband on her cheering team, she also has her dogs. This picture was taken at the Beaufort Hunt Point-to-Point races, as the couple – accompanied by their dogs – watched their horse run.
Orla the Spaniel
We already know how much the Prince and Princess of Wales are dog lovers. Following the passing of their sweet dog, Lupo, who stayed with the family for nine years, the family was gifted another spaniel by Catherine’s brother.

The spaniel was an eight-month-old pup, and two years later, the family revealed she was named Orla when she was featured in the official photo to mark Princess Charlotte’s seventh birthday. Doesn’t Orla look cute?!
Beth and Bluebell
Since Camilla adopted her pet dogs, Jack Russell terriers Beth and Bluebell, from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, they’ve accompanied her to several outings. Recently, they went with her on a trip to Wiltshire.

In 2020, Beth helped the Queen Consort to officially open a new facility at the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home Old Windsor Centre, using a sausage to unveil the plaque. And in April of the same year, both dogs stole the show in a new portrait of Charles and Camilla as they marked their 15th wedding anniversary.
Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden
Crown Princess Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel, introduced their pet dog, Rio, on Instagram in May 2020. Rio is a caboodle dog, a cross between a cavalier King Charles spaniel and a poodle. Their choice of dog caused controversy, with the Swedish Kennel Club writing an open letter to the princess to think more about the breeding she supports by obtaining a mixed breed.

The princess replied by saying she didn’t have condemnatory views. Since he became a member of their family, Rio has been involved in family photoshoots and royal engagements. And what a cutie pie he is! We’d want him in all of our photos too!
The Duchess of Edinburgh
Here’s a picture of Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, with a puppy. The Duchess of Edinburgh is the patron of some 70 charities and organizations, mainly focused on aiding those with disabilities.

Edward says they have two dogs and a tortoise who run the house. We have a hard time believing a tortoise runs anything, but we know what he means.
The Duke and Duchess of Windsor
When King George V passed away, Edward VIII became king. However, his tenure didn’t last long. Eventually, he was succeeded by his brother, King George VI.

Following Edward’s abdication, Edward and Wallis became the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and were known to dote on their dogs. In this picture, the couple is seated outdoors with two small dogs beside them.
The Wessex Family
The Wessex family currently shares their home with two dogs—a black labrador and a cocker spaniel —and a more unusual pet, a tortoise. Tortoises seem to be more common than we thought with the royals!

Sophie has been seen walking the dogs around the Windsor estate before, including over the Easter break in 2019 when the Wessexes joined Her Majesty for the holiday.
Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine
Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark revealed they had welcomed two new residents to their family in December 2021. The gorgeous puppies are the babies of their border collie, Grace, who joined the family in 2017 after the passing of Princess Mary’s beloved dog, Ziggy.

To commemorate Vicent and Josephine’s 11th birthday, the palace shared cute pictures of the royal grandchildren with the puppies.
Fun and Playful
Savannah is the oldest grandchild of Anne, Princess Royal, and Mark Phillips and the oldest great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. She’s been described as the most playful and the funniest one of all the late Queen’s great-grandchildren. And looking at this picture, we believe it!

The young girl is having a lot of fun playing with a black lab alongside her sister, Isla, and her cousin, Mia Tindall. This just looks like a perfectly fun autumn afternoon in which the girls are spending time with family and their four-legged best friend!
The Royal Swans
Did you know that the Crown has the right to claim ownership of all unmarked mute swans swimming in open waters throughout the country?

This means that these swans are technically the Queen’s pets. Judging from this picture, the Queen isn’t only interested in dogs. We’d also have a smile as wide as that if we had such an adorable swan!
Prince William
William and Kate got Lupo, a cocker spaniel, as a Christmas gift from Kate’s parents in 2011. When the dog joined their family, the couple lived in Wales.

As seen here, the couple doted on Lupo, with William taking a quick break from a polo game to hold and snuggle the pup. Lupo was very popular and was the subject of four children’s books in a series titled The Adventures of a Royal Dog.
